Emergency Contraception
If you have had unprotected sex you could become pregnant.
A 'morning after pill' is available but must be taken as soon as possible. You have at the most 72 hours but it works better the sooner you take it. The pill is available from the NHS for free or you can buy it at a chemist for about £21.00. After 72 hours it is still worth talking to a doctor as there are other options. An IUD (coil) - must be fitted up to five days after sex, or up to five days after the earliest time you could have released an egg (ovulation).
You have the right to go to any doctor’s surgery and ask for help, you can speak to a doctor or a nurse either in person or by phone .
There are several ways you can get emergency contraception.
GP Surgeries
From your GP or Nurse. Please ring your surgery and make an urgent, same day appointment with the nurse or doctor. Emergency contraception is free from your doctor/nurse.
